Tom just a quick point, I believe the heading should be early 20th century. or late 19th century.

You can highlight/select the link, then copy it, by using your edit tools, then paste it into your web search box.

I forgot to mention that it will take you to a page with a photo of Charlie Chaplin, next to his photo at the end of some text you will see the word "more...

Click on the word more and it will take you to a page showing the old Cuckoo Schools as we called it.

The boy you are talking about 2nd left his face is blurred, is that the one you meant George.

Whoops! George I have only had a couple, I was looking at the other end of the table.

I can see the likeness a bit when I was about that age George. It is funny how their hair stiles look very much like ours today. Those lads looked well dressed and well fed, and trying to keep that amount of young lads under control must have been hard. So if the regime was strict I guess it was necessary. Those children were taken from workhouses and were probably street wise. So I bet they tried pulling a few strokes.

Did you know that charlie chaplin, hated the place. he was only there a short time. Not much of the place is left. They had everything there they had stables and a farm it was a lot larger than the phto's show. I bet when they left as young men and women. They new what work ment.Ive seen photo's of the time in london the averege live span of the working class was 40years old. No medical care like we have to-day.There is a book on Hanwell at them times. I think my Sister as one.The lady who runs the centra she might have one. by Ted.p.s there is a statue of charlie chaplin as you go into the playing near the rest garden sadly his head is missing. nothings changed. in my day it would have all be gone. by Ted
