Sorry Tom I thought I would put this here for anyone that does not know. The posts and comments for April are still active and you can still make comments there. If you add a comment in April's entries let people know where it is so we can click back to it, because I am sure once a new month starts most people don't bother looking back. I do not know why we don't, because sometimes we have a good conversation going then the end of the month comes and that is the end of it, and that does not have to happen. You could even add comments further back but at the moment I do not know why you would want to do that. I hope this as been helpfull to some of you.

Hi Tom, I would like to keep lost and found. and I share Jims thoughts (Oh my God) did I really say that, Iam doooooomed. Seriously I find I am waiting for a comment from a conversation and its gone anything we can do about that?

Eff said...

Maybe we could have an 'Update from last month" column. In it Tom could just cut and paste the subject of the lost conversation, so that members can still comment on it in the current month. Then they could go on to newer subjects in other columns.

Agree that the lost and found is an important item, but it should be in conjuction with a new visitor sign in and encourage new visitor's not to be shy but just type their name and stand up and be recognized.

Eff said...

Another thought, the Chat line should be just that. The case has always been that when an item is published for comment, the membership seems to go off of the original subject and seem to forget what the original was, and start chatting amongst themselves about subjects far from the original one. All this although entertaining, makes it hard and extremely time consuming to surf through all of the items looking for the latest comments. Could you please, Tommy, encourage the membership to use the chat room for other than the original post?

tags said...

I agree with all you have said Eff.
Also I think although we had a good response last month, I just felt that there were far to many different boxes/subjects.
I think limiting each month to about 4 plus any new photos or stories should be ample.
I do think you are right that we should all try and stick to the relevant subject for each category.
Maybe we should have a miscellany or comical comments box for the more humourous chit chat.

tags said...

Adding suggestions to what I just said,

the
Bits & Pieces is for miscellaneous items.

Lost & Found, Old & New
should be for new sign ins and missing Cuckooite contacts.

Just Kidding
may suit for exchanging jokes and humourous banter between each other.

New Feature stories and photos will have their own titles.

And possibly a Suggestions Box for just such thoughts and constructive ideas that we may have.

Feedback and your thoughts/comments are welcome, if you have ideas on how to improve the site...please don't be shy..all your ideas will be considered and treated with respect by Tommy and the rest of the Cuckooites.

Regards to continuing to add comments to previous past months.
I wonder how many folks do go back and add comments, I think the majority of us who have been frequenting the site since the early days do not go back to make or enter comments but stick with the present month to continue talking to each other.
One can always highlite copy and past your comment again in this months chat room or relevant category to continue a prior month's conversation.

tags said...

Sorry me again, I meant you can easily paste your comment again in this month yourselves.

tags said...

Also if you have any good or interesting memories or stories or feature articles that you may want published in the new Cuckooite book or on the site, this month may be a good time to work on them and submit them to Tommy before the book goes to press.

Hi Cuckooites, when I get back to seattle I will address the isues you have brought up.I am working from a laptop and it is all new to me.Will be back next weds .

Del. said...

Last month we had a return to the situation where comments on one heading started popping up on two others. I find that this breaks up the continuity of a Q and A conversation. Tags is right to suggest that fewer boxes would help. Del.

jim davis said...

Johnb With regards to the banter, for me humor is funnier when it is spontaneous, and a few people have mentioned how it amuses them when Yvonne keeps having a go at me. It would not work if you could only have a laugh in one place. You are forgetting banter usually starts when one person picks up on what another has said, perhaps a mistake or a double meaning, and I don't think you can stop that.

jim davis said...

Sorry Johnb but I do not understand your logic with regard to less headings. I do not like too many headings and said so earlier last month, so we agree there. But you say four should be ample then propose two new ones. So that begs the question. of the ones we have now which ones would you exchange for your two?. Aprils headings I agree there were too many, but that was a exceptional month. To finish, in everyday conversation how often do you start talking about one thing, then someone drifts off the point and starts on something completely different?. Many times I would imagine, It would be nice if we didn't but it would seem that is the way we are.

tags said...

Banter may have been a poor choice of words and you are right spontaneity happens in conversation and I would not want to spoil or detract from that element.
Maybe six boxes plus features and photos would be enough.
These were merely suggestions, but
I do think we can all make a better attempt at trying to stay on the right subject and more structure on the site would be a plus, exactly how that is acheived I'm not sure, I would be interested in what other folks feel about this or if they can suggest anything.

tags said...

On the other hand, maybe it's just the nature of the beast so to speak and that we should not change anything.
I would like to see more photos and memory features like we used to have, otherwise it's no big deal to leave things the way they are and let site evolve in it's own way.
Another thought I had is that some of us regulars could have our own boxes for chat but that's probably asking too much, or perhaps two or more people could be allocated a box between them.
Just a thought.

tags said...

Just think you could have the:
Tommy and Sue box.
Del and Charlotte box.
Effo and ValB box.
Jim and Yvonne box.
and for example the
Tags and JohnB box.

The last one would work ok...as they say you get the right answers when you talk to yourself.

Jim davis said...

I do agree with a lot of what you say Johnb, the only difference being finding the solution. If someone drifts away from the original content of a post, and there is no reason for it, then it will do no harm to gently bring it to their attention. But at the end of the day I would rather people come to the site and put comments on the wrong page (SORRY GRACE I AM ONLY TEASING.) than not come on at all

jim davis said...

Johnb honestly the idea of people having their own page I was thinking of a couple of days ago. At first I thought oh yes! what a good idea Jim. After giving it further consideration I thought it could end up being divisive, as it might encourage people to break up into small groups. So in the end I decided it was not that good an idea. But that is only my view, and others may think differently

yvonneh said...

Hi all,
Do you know, I have read with interest all that has been said, Really Tags, we are not at school , perhaps we should have no titles at all, we are supposed to be encouraging other cuckooites on to the site, whether that is with humour, memories or any other chit chat, does it really matter which box it goes in, I for one read them all anyway and find them all interesting. Many a time a comment on an article, leads off onto something else, do we then have to put a bit on one page then a peice on another in reply. I for one will continue to answer as I do now otherwise I cannot see any point in contributing if you have to constantly watch what bit goes in where. My last letter to the editor could have gone into three places, what sense does that make. This is my relaxation time, not a course at college. Cuckooites should be able to express their thoughts and memories anywhere on the site.

georgek said...

Im with you Yvonne, leave things as they are.

Editor said...

The idea of personal pages is a logistic nightmare.People are complaining that it takes to long to surf thru the pages as they are now listed. We are allways going to have a long index because every article I publish takes up a page.We want more pages on differant subjects to read like a magazine, this way Cuckooites might find something of interest they can relate to and join in the chatter.

jim davis said...

I suppose at the end of the day as the old saying goes if it aint broke don'y fix it. But Tommy does try new things frequently and if popular they are retained. It is good we are having this conversation (for want of a better word) because although we have difference view it shows we care about the site and that is the main thing.

tags said...

I guess we'll all have to agree to differ and carry on the way things are, as you say Jim if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I guess I'm outnumbered and my opinions were wrong.

By the way Tommy,
I was only kidding about the individual personal boxes, and I don't want to discourage anyone from contributing if they prefer to put their comments anywhere that's ok too, it's free, it's every Cuckooites site...and we are all entitled to an opinion.
I've foolishly expressed mine.
Cheers.

Tommy said...

John no offence taken you can allways let me know your opinion ,you have earned that with your contributions from the past.I am glad to try anything once as I have done in the past.My mission is to make it the best website we can all achieve, and you all caring
makes my job so much easier.I do not want to surpress ideas and want you all to speak your minds .Thanks for all your input it helps me a lot.

yvonneh said...

Sorry tags dont take it to heart, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I just want to keep the site as it should be. easy to get onto and easy to say what you have to say without worrying or apologising as some have done, for being on the wrong page, Complicated is not what we should be about.

tags said...

Your right Yvonne, I'm not upset.
Maybe too much tinkering with the site will spoil it or take the fun out of it.
After all as I'm guilty as anyone is for making comments in the wrong
place, I was concerned that it was interrupting other folks who may wish to comment or add to the original subject matter and was trying to find a way that we all still joke around without breaking the continuity of a story, memory or subject matter that someone went to the trouble of submitting to Tommy. Maybe no one else cares anyway.
Cheers

yvonneh said...

Where are phil, grace, and other contributers, how do YOU feel about the site, what about your majesty, guiding her subjects from colchester how do you feel we should move forward, Or do you think its ok as it is? Where are you all.

jim davis said...

Yes Johnb don't think because from time to time I do not agree with a point of view you might have. It does not mean I do not have respect for you on a personal level. Nothing I say should be taken personally.

jim davis said...

Blimey I did not think my original comment would cause such a stir. It must be some kind of record nearly 30 comments in one day. It just goes to show you lot do like an argument.

yvonneh said...

Come off it Jim, you love a good argy bargy, and doesnt it make it interesting, and we have kept it all under one heading. I think that warrants 10 brownie points. What say you.

tags said...

It would be nice to get some input from a few more members.

It's a holiday weekend in England so lots of folk are outside or on holiday enjoying themselves I would imagine.

jim davis said...

What I think Yvonne is, each of us has shown we do care about this site as do many others. Just as we all have personal preferences in music soccer teams etc, we each have our own thoughts on how this site should develop. All of us can't be right, or indeed wrong come to that. But of one thing I am sure, we all agree that Tommy to date has done a good job of running it. He needs everybody, yes even those of you that have not got round to making comments yet, to give him some input on what you think He/We should try. I imagine Tom will be rubbing his hands in glee how we have all said our piece. So I think we should all keep on doing that, and he will sort the Wheat from the Chaff so to speak.

yvonneh said...

Jim
I hope Tom and Sue are having a well deserved break, before comming back to sort this lot out.
Tom has done a magnificent job, listening to us lot, dealing with the problems, and giving us this wonderful site, at the end of the day as we always do, we respect his decisions, we might not always agree with it, but it always works. Please just keep it simple, a lot of us have enough problems coming to terms with all the technology, without getting blown away with things like pasting , John you will have to explain that. But I would still like to hear from others, that way Tom will have better knowledge of what we all would like to see.Come on you Cuckooites support your site, as you support your reunions.

tags said...

You take your cursor Yvonne and select the area/comment you want to copy by dragging the cursor over it , it should highlite in a blue transparent overtone.
You then select copy in your edit menu, it is now stored in memory on your computers clipboard, then proceed to the place where you want to to paste it, point/click it with your cursor and select paste from your edit menu.
Simple really, no offence but any fool can do it.

Johnb said...

I just wanted to add...Tommy deserves a medal (or a Cuckooite Badge) for putting up with you lot.

Grace said...

WELL WELL WELL Have taken note of all the comenment,s i agree with Yvonneh like her i read all pages but not every day as for Jim Davis i did reply on the wrong page twice but that was a deliberate mistake GLAD YOU WAS AWAKE JIM. Some times there are a few day,s in beteen before someone replys but i read them all.The old saying is,I cant have all the sense if you have it ,but we are Better Loking. [right girls?]

Johnb said...

We won't argue with that Grace you are all better looking even in your rollers.

Val B said...

You are so right Grace. Anyway who do these men think they are?!!!
Back to the main subject, I find it very time consuming to go through every heading reading the comments but I do it as often as I can. I would rather have as few headings as possible so that you only have to scroll to the bottom each time to catch up.However, like you all, I think it is a brilliant site and all thanks to Tommy. (Even if he is a man!)

Grace said...

John B do you mean roller skate,s , rolling pins or roller blades we look very Glamorous in all three. or are you thinking of roller blinds .

Johnb said...

Sorry...I meant curlers as you call 'em Grace. Nothing to do with rolling pins or the others.

tags said...

Hi Val, where are you now...?
France again?

JohnB said...

Hi Val, I just read your Chat Room comments and now realise that you are not on holiday, but are busy with your Bowlers, good luck with the event.

jim davis said...

Grace will you please explain to me. Why did you say sorry both times you put your comment on the wrong page, if as you say it was a deliberate mistake. Grace there is an old saying you can't Kid a Kidder, so behave yourself.

jim davis said...

Oh! Hi! Val so you are back on board again are you, That is what I like about you straight in and stiring it up already. To answer your question, who do these men think they are. Well I don't know about the others but I think I am Gods gift to women. Or dare I say I know I am.

yvonneh said...

OOOOOOOH hark at Jimmy, we all know you are a kidder dont we, i am sure Grace can speak for herself
but as the girls have come out to support me, JIM WE ARE ALSO MORE POLITE THAN YOU, WE SAY SORRY EVEN IF WE HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG it has been brow beaten into us at childhood that the male species is better than the female, but we grew up and learnt what rubbish that was, what happened to you?
lovely to see you back Grace and Val, I hope your team do well.

tags said...

Let's all welcome Jennifer to the site, ...she lived in the prefabs.

Jennifer was it the prefabs near the shops or the ones near Ruislip Road East?

Can you tell us some names of your friends you knew?

I knew a Colin Forest that lived in the prefabs, he was in my class.

Did you know Sue Coleshill?

yvonneh said...

Welcome Jennifer Lovely to have another female on site. Let us know a bit more about yourself.

jim davis said...

Hi Jennifer I lived in the flats in Brants Walk our kitchen and balcony looked out over Riverside Close. Welcome to the site, I hope you discover old friends and maybe make new ones. Jim

Tommy said...

Hi everyone,I have been following your comments and can see you really get along very well with out me.Lots of good banter going on and some good conversation the war of the sexes is very much the topic of the day, just like old times boy's against the girls. We leave for home tomrrow will take about 13 hours to drive and we will go thru one time zone and get out hour back we lost. While here Sue's three children presented us with a lovely Dell laptop so we can stay in touch while on out travels, takes a little getting used to but I love it.See you all with some features when we get home on Wednesday.Carry on with the fun.

tags said...

Hi Tommy your Del laptop sounds nice.

Talking of Del where is he?

And talking of the war of the sexes...here's what happens if you put a woman in charge...goodbye council houses thanks to the Iron Lady. Or is there another reason that poor young married couples with kids can't get a council house??

On This Day....

1979: Election victory for Margaret Thatcher

The Conservative Party wins the general election making Margaret Thatcher Britain's first woman prime minister.

yvonneh said...

I am afraid tags that I have to agree with you. The start of ythe greed culture was the sale of council houses, especially when they came with massive reductions for the years people had lived in them. You cannot blame the individuals for taking the opportunity to what seemed to be bettering themselves and giving opportunities for their families. The problem was that the money councils were getting was not enough to replace the houses they were being forced to sell. So you have a whole generation of youngsters who were left homeless or forced to live in dingy flats with no gardens, It became a vicious circle as the philosophy when our parents were moved from dingy flats and run down areas, was to give everyone a small garden on a self contained estate, and people would start taking a pride in their surroundings, which they did, but because of thatchers policy of greed we have gone the full circle and the young folk are now in the same position as our parents were, either living in barrier block flats where no one is safe, or a prey to the unscrupulous landlords, I think she was a man in disguise. But tags she was one women, I would love to go into the history of a lot of the do good men, Those who ran the workhouses and childrens homes, to name a few, and what they forced the poor and vulnerable to do for a crust of bread, The whiggs who thought it was funny to keep the vermin down whilst they lived in luxury. The Cuckoo schools is a fine example,
oops on my high horse again, but these things must be discussed, as Cameron is an avid supporter of thatcher.

tags said...

I'm afraid Yvonne that I am not only going to agree with you, but also I commend you on your excellent and well articulated response.
That really is what has happened, it has turned full circle.

Anonymous said...

Am I a bit daft or what?!!
Tell me what have these last comments got to do with the original post?

Anonymous said...

Are we related?!!??

Anonymous said...

Thanks tags I will as usual ignore the anonymous, as if they cant put their name to their comment it is not worth reading. This is exactly what I mean about things leading to other things and labels having no relevence when you are answering a comment. I will continue to do so as this is, in my opinion, what makes the site so interesting. Unless the genuine readers and writers over rule me as thats called DEMOCRACY.

yvonneh said...

Oh dear sheepishly

jim davis said...

Oh! that was 'KING' brilliant Yvonne, It could not have happened to a more deserving person.

Del said...

ZZZZZZZZ!

yvonneh said...

Did you like it Jim , at least I can laugh at my mistakes and admit to them, not like you forgetting our golf games , as I remember you joined us, in our game as no one would play with you,.

jim davis said...

I think I know you well enough Yvonne, and I bet you could have kicked yourself not laughed. Believe it or not I did not start to learn how to play golf until I was fifty three. So if you did beat me back then, and that is by no means certain, it was nothing to boast about. I have not played in over a year but my handicap then was 14 so that is not too bad.

yvonneh said...

Hi Jim. are you bragging again,I havent played for ten years now and my handicap is ten, so there. Ten is the number of golf clubs I possess. They are my handicap.I only ever beat you once and that was when you lost your ball in the bushes twice and yes Jim , you dont know me very well as I have always had the ability to laugh at myself and the only reason I would have kicked myself was knowing that you would not let it go, like a red rag to a bull. However I am glad it brightened your day.

Tommy. said...

Now Now Boys and girls let's be nice,I am sure you both are good golfers unlike me who has a handicap of 26 but remember it is better to have played and lost, rather than not played at all.

yvonneh said...

Thank god you are back Tom, these boys always take advantage when you are away.
I have noticed that Jimmy is always quiet when you are here,
Love the photo gallery again' any chance of putting the St Annes class photo on site as we still dont know all the names and we have lots of new Cuckooites since it last went out.

Tommy said...

Yvonne let me see if I can find it,do you remember what year and month it was.Glad you enjoyed the show.Hope Ken is feeling better and will be strong enough to make the reunion. My knee replacement went well it has been 5 months and I am back to walking my 3 miles a day.Great to be feeling good.

jim davis said...

About a month ago my wife was told by her Doctor to walk at least three miles a day, and now I can't find her.

georgek said...

Perhaps she would rather like to stay lost!!!

yvonneh said...

Here Here George. Tom the photo is the one on your picture show but it goes to fast for anyone to see and add names to the list underneath. Love to know who they all are.

Tommy said...

Yvonne,I posted the photo you asked about but had to remove it as it came out to small. You could not reconise anyone,I will have to find the earlier version I posted in 2007 when I get time to find it.

jim davis said...

You can be so hurtfull sometimes George.

yvonneh said...

Oh dear you are not having a hissy fit are you Jim.

jim davis said...

I can if I want!

georgek said...

Sorry Jim,would not hurt your feelings for the world, its just that, sometimes, YOU ASK FOR IT.Boo Hoo.

yvonneh said...

Not sometimes George ALL the time, and dont cry, this is a happy site.
So dont worry Jim is just sulking.

jim davis said...

Disappointed is the word to use Yvonne. I thought I had an ally in George keeping some of you women under some sort of control, or as my old mum used to say, 'Letting you know where your place is .' Now I find he is one of you lot. Or maybe he is just worried because the reunion is approaching. If that be the case George don't worry i'll look after you.

jim davis said...

Yvonne, You know I do not like to correct you but someone has to do it. Further up this page you started by saying here here George. Hear! Hear! is the exclamation of agreement with someone. You will find a few people agreeing with you, if they do they are also wrong. There is no way that yours is a typo. It is a mistake. It is a good job I am here to look after you, don't you agree?

Tommy said...

I stand corrected. Now I am as big a culprit as the rest of you.

jim davis said...

What did you apologize for Tom? It was Yvonne that got it wrong not you.

yvonneh said...

So because I agreed with George I am wrong and you are right. You say no-one will agree with me, George does and thats fine by me. Jim you have to learn that you cant always be right, sad as it may seem, our opinions count too, but I do like the thought of being looked after. Are you going to look after us all then as you told george that as well, you are such a caring soul

jim davis said...

Yvonne read what I said again. All I said is, you was wrong in saying HERE HERE it should have been HEAR HEAR. I also said a few people would agree with you, but if they did they would be wrong as well. I said nothing about you agreeing with George so I am afraid I don't understand what it is you are saying.

georgek said...

Im staying out of this!

yvonneh said...

Jim my HERE HERE. was quite correct I was telling George that I was here with him in what he said. I could have said HEAR HEAR.
but I wasnt LISTENING to him I was READING hiS message and on his side. So now pick the bones out of that. Dont be frightened to join in George I will look after you!!!!!!!!

Val B said...

I think I've lost the plot here. Jim made a joke about losing his wife, George gave a cheeky reply on the women's side for a change,Yvonne applauded George for doing that, then Jim picked up Yvonne for mis-spelling the usual way of saying "hear, hear",Yvonne came back with a clever answer but seemed to confuse the point that Jim had been making? Or am I going mad? I think I'll be like George and stay out of it!

jim davis said...

HEAR! HEAR! VALb you are probably going mad. Yvonne is enough to make anyone go mad. Yvonne thinks she is right. But I know I am.

jim davis said...

Changing the subject Valb, Frank, Edna and you all looked fit and well when I saw you at the little fair you put on, to get some funding for the blind bowlers. I didn't stay long I only popped in to contribute a little to you kitty. Next year let people on this site know a little sooner, and perhaps you might get a little something to help a worthy cause. Jim.

Val B said...

Jim it was good to see you and Jan and thank you for coming along. We did very nicely and have nearly achieved our overall target this year to cover the cost of two new short mats and accessories, and to subsidise this year's bowls tour. It was worth all the hard work!
