Where is ValB??..on holiday again no doubt.

jim davis said...

On holiday is a good guess, or maybe sitting at home counting all of her money and wondering what part of the world to spend it in.

Val B said...

Ok you blokes, I know you are pushing me into saying something as you know that I check in most days! Well, I'm not on holiday nor counting my money, I'm doing the usual - working for my blind bowlers. We have a fund-raising day tomorrow, Bank Holiday Monday, and I have been working towards it for weeks. I've just checked in to Cuckooites to read the May headers but I am supposed to be wrapping up lucky dip presents! Edna is downstairs folding up tombola tickets and Frank is in his office making posters for the stalls etc. Don't tell them that I've taken a break! So lets get the commercials out of the way. Monday 4th May at The Battle of Britain Club, Uxbridge starting at 2 o'clock, entrance is free, lots of stalls but all raising funds for blind bowlers. Maybe some Cuckooites that still live local would like to come along? We have stalls with games for children so why not bring your grand kids?
I've been dying to get in and post a comment sometimes but just daren't as I know I will get involved. Anyway after tomorrow I will be back to normal again.

Hi Phil,
When you came on to the website last month I wondered if I knew you but can't place the name. We are the same age and if you know Pat and Mags then you probably did see me as we were always together. I was always down at her house in Mayfield Gdns and knew all her family well. As a matter of interest, Pat still lives in the same house having bought it off of her mum.
I will ask her about you the next time I see her.
Welcome to the site but stop siding with that Jim Davis if you know what's good for you!

yvonneh said...

Here, here Val. Phil behave yourself, Jim is a bad influence. ignore him. good luck with your fund raising, look forward to hearing what you make.

phil said...

Come on girls i'm not sideing with Jim he is an old friend of my cous Ken Bunting and in the old days they couldn't do anything wrong so why should it change now? Val give my regards to Pat when you see her i do hope she remembers me tell i used to be with Ken Bunting,Ray Green,Eddie Brackley,Phil Cheyney etc, i can't love her anymore, but then wow, mind you i might have made a mistake with the age,i think i might have been 9/10 i was still of sound mind and body though

jim davis said...

How nice Phil, It just goes to show even at that early age, males are the true romantics. I think women are just in love with the word, but us men we have feelings, something drives us on. I wonder what that could be?

phil said...

Quite right Jim the only thing i wanted at the time was physical contact, after that i would have treated her with the upmost respect, you know mate, like all us boys were taught when we were young to be thorough gentleman, and to do the right thing, and er!Yvonne i'm not doing any fund raising, check back love it's Val B

jim davis said...

Just amuse her Phil she is alright really she is. We all forget things at some time or other, dont we Yvonne?

phil said...

I'll take it easy whith them for the moment Jim i'm still new to this site remember, just waiting to get my feet under the table, but what ever you say and do mate is ok by me

jim davis said...

Phil i was onlt kidding that was meant for Yvonnes consumption, because I am sure she was going to shortly accuse me of having a selective memory. But now after her Boo! Boo! with you, even she surely can't accuse me of that. I bet she is so mad at herself she could spit. No Phil you carry on mate, more power to your elbow.

Oh dear I can't remember who first posted this on the site...it's another oldie.

Recently, I was diagnosed with ~ A.A.A.D.D. ~ Age Activated Attention ~ Deficit Disorder
This is how it manifests ...I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can, under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my cheque book off the table, and see that there is only 1 cheque left. My extra cheques are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my cheques, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over
The Coke is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye ~ they need water.
I put the Coke on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I'd better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight, when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wiped up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day ~ the car isn't washed - the bills aren't paid - there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter - the flowers don't have enough water - there is still only 1 cheque in my check book - I can't find the remote- I can't find my glasses - and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

Do me a favour. Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember who I've sent it to.

Don't laugh ~ if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

Hi Bob Stevens. you put a photo of your wife joy on site on 12th march/ when my computer was out of action. The girl next to her was Ethel Walker we were in the same class at St Annes and used to go around together, She had two older sisters Iris and Janet, they lived in the first house in Lyle Crescent A few years ago I tried to trace her as they had emigrated to either Canada or New Zealand I had a reply from a friend of hers saying she had passed away, some years ago. I have a class photo which I must get to tom to put on site. What was Joys maiden name as I recognise her from that photo

bob stevens said...

Yvonneh thanks, yes now you mention the name I remember her.She was good friends with my sister Sally
Joy my wife of 50 years maiden name Carter, lived at 1 Westcott Cresent, her brother Jack married Lainy Frazer from Templeton Road, she was the grand daughter to Mrs. Woods the station master at Castle Bar, large lady who wore thick round pebble glasses, she lived in Borders Road and was also the grand mother of Ken and Vick Woods, they lived in the pre-fabs at the bottom of Cuckoo Avenue. Jack and Lainy emigrated to Australia in 1968, divorced about 20 years ago, Jack is a nomad, touring Australia and living in his mobile home.
Look forward to meeting up again in September.
Kind regards

yvonneh said...

Bob , glad to help, if you go back into March 09 and scroll down you will see aphoto of Upfield Road outing, she is kneeling in the corner next to her grandmother, my mum and dad are on the opposite side, my dad is the tall fellow at the back and my mum is in front of him in the dark suit, my younger brother is kneeling at the front he has the pullover and tie, paul thinks they were at the bulb fields, I was in the WRAC at that time.

bob stevens said...

Yes Yvonneh, you are right, I did recognise your Mum and Dad, these were the outings my mum used to arrange, we collected a certain amount of money each week from all who booked the trips.
Margate was another popular venue.
Look forward to seeing you in September.

Ethel (Stevens) Damian said...

Angela, you asked Tommy to send me your email address, however comcast will not recognise my email address. I think you have to tell them to do it. They are a funny bunch had trouble with them before.
Eff

tags said...

Eff...Maybe Angela has to add you to her contact list otherwise it may be treated as spam. Unless of course there is some kind of ISP feud going between them.

yvonneh said...

Bob is your mum on the photo and do you recognise anyone else.

bob stevens said...

Yvonneh
No, I think she would have been at home waiting for me to arrive.
Perhaps the people in the photo were some of the first to live on the estate as we were all born around the time the photo was taken.

We have elections in the Uk shortly. Then we will have the choice of voting for one bunch of crooks, and if we don't like them, then we have two other gangs of crooks to chose from. Before anyone makes the comment, if I were one of them I am sure I would be milking the system as do they. If you are happy with that situation fine, but if you are not what can we do about it? One idea is do not waste your vote by not voting, politicians are quite happy with that because the status quo remains the same. In my opinion the one thing that will make them sit up and take notice is to vote for anyone bar them. If many people would just vote for outlandish candidates, it does not matter which one. Then when the results are known our politicians would be the laughing stock of the world instead of us. One thing I am sure of, if we continue to vote for the three main parties then our votes are surely wasted.

jim davis said...

I decided to keep this separate from my previous entry because I do believe we should give this some serious thought. In the Uk we make a big show of saying our system allows, no insists on the population having a secret ballot at elections. What is more we condemn those countries that do not follow our example. That is a load of hogs-wash because our votes are not secret. When you next go to a polling station take note. You give your name which a person checks against a numbered list. which is ticked, then you are given your voting slip which is also numbered. So how hard is it to connect one number to the other? Whether that information is collected or not I do not know, but it is there if the powers that be decide they want it. So we should not get on our high horse and say our system is best. If your views are different than mine, then have your say I certainly won't be offended.

HI FOLKS not been on site for a few days been tied up not LITERALLY [tho that would make a change, been reading all the comments and am now up to date .Pleased to see many of you are going to the reunion i am looking forward to puting faces to some of the names .i think jim knows my youngest sister Beryl the other one Margaret is coming over from Florida I wonder if MR or MRS Anonymous is going.

yvonneh said...

That will be interesting Grace. I tend not to answer if they cant be bothered to say who they are.

Tommy said...

Point well taken Jim on voting,we really only have two party's over here and they both seem only interested in their own districts not the good of the country.I would like to see all canditates being independant and that they would vote and represent the people.Much to much money is spent getting ellected over here and choosing a president can go on for two years.

jim davis said...

Welcome back Grace, what an interesting woman you are. In an earlier photo you are shown standing on a street corner doing heaven knows what. Now your latest disclosure is, you have an interest in bondage. Please give us more!!!

Grace said...

jim davis i should be so lucky at my age bondage indeed i think your finger pressed the wrong key it should have read BANDAGE .any way i can dream you never know i may yet find a man to wait on me hand foot and finger and cover me in diamonds and pearls {i wish he would hurry up]weather lovley here sunny and warm.will have to choose my words more carefully in future.

jim davis said...

No don't do that Grace, your reply was very amusing and it does no harm to have a laugh does it?

Tommy said...

jim davis said...

yvonneh said...

Like the other day i brought 40 new exhaults. with no makers name on them. or what car there for. another head ace. got to keep the brain acitve.Iknow when i pop my glogs it will all go down the tipIve just started going to the jim to keep the legs and arms moving right. Had a trip down memory lane this week after 28 years. Avisit to the estate brought back so many memories ,just driving through Greenford and past all the shops .I was amazed to see Baxters butchers still there and the fish and chip shop on the corner.I was told the old school is being given a face lift and a lot of money spent on it.Nice to know theyre looking after it.Surprised to see the boys senior school has gone and houses built instead. There wasnt a lot of time but I will definately be going back to see more of the area.Driving through Westcott and seeing our old house was strange but it all looked well kept up which was nice.

Maureen T[Foley] said...

hello to Shaun and Ted Abear.Ive just realised it was me in the photos taken at ruislip Lido dancing on the grass. It was my daughter that pointed out to me I hadnt read the writing underneath. We had some great days, there a bit like a Cliff Richard film summer holiday. We also used to go to Runnymead on our bikes, swim in the river and dance on the grass the same. I dont do any jiving these ,I go to a very good jazz club but only to listen these days, plenty of foot tapping but thats about it.

Ted baker said...

Well Jim.I know you have a problem with me,twice you have come back at me about what ive said. The first time was about colin Murphy.I know how Colin died. I grew up with the family as i lived in the same gate with them. My family have always been close to the Murphy familey, at the time i was trying to be sensitive When i said he died. Its a shame that you feel and wrote what you did If the murpley family ever joined this site and read your comment on how he died.It might upset them to remember the awful details of his death.I know you are one of the founder members of this site.Iam what i am. Im a born again Christian, nothiing is going to stop me from what i am. JESUS is my life He as been for the last 45years. I think it would be better for me to say good by. to this site. We might turn up at the reuion in September. Im glade to say that the rest of you will always a inspuration to me about the times of the old cuckoo estate. If i bump into any of those who used to live on the estate i will give them your site address.By Ted

jim davis said...

Ted When I mentioned Spud there was no (having a go intended) I was just clarifying a point. Secondly no one has said anything detrimental about you being a born again Christian, I am sure nobody on this site would. If you think they have then please point it out to us because I have never seen anything. With regard to the recent one, you said you came back to the site because you had nothing else to do. Yes I was sarcastic about that because I did not think the reason you gave was a very nice thing to say. And while I am at it for someone who is so determined in your views, your principals re' not coming back did not last long did it? Ted if you stay on the site fine, if you leave the site fine, if you leave and come back again that is fine as well. But to be frank I don't give a monkey's what you do, because you have one large chip on your shoulder.

georgek said...

Sorry your going Ted,myself, I have never seen anything detrimental said against you,as for Jim getting at you ,well,he does like to banter, and we love his quips, you have just taken them the wrong way,we all get edgy sometimes thats humane nature, but we do have the ability to take a step back and say "Hang On" I might have got that wrong.Jim says on his comment to you that he dont give a monkey, but deep down he does care and quite rightly, he feels you have got it in for him because its Jim your blaming for your decision to leave this site.Jim as said as much to all of us but then we might have deserved his comments, weve said the same to Jim.It would be a sad world if we were all the same.Come back soon Ted.

Beryl Bradford ( Bolton ) said...

Hi Jim. You have opened my eyes to what my sister Grace gets up to. I never new she was into Bondage and waiting for a new man to enter her life. I new there was some thing not right when she stood on that street corner against a road sign that said Finkley Lane. Keep dig Jim I might learn a lot more of my sisters dark secretes and desires. Beryl.

jim davis said...

George without re-hashing what has been said before. I have never had any banter with Ted, I will only do that once I have got to know someone. Whenever I have said anything to Ted it has been in response to something he has said. If you want me to go into more detail I will. But I must make it clear I stand by everything I have said.

jim davis said...

Yes Beryl she is a dark horse that one. When she first came on the site I thought perhaps she might need handling with Kid gloves for a while. How wrong can you be?

yvonneh said...

Ted I am sad to see anyone go off site, particularly for the reasons you give. No-one is bothered what religion you are, but it would appear by what you say, you are.
Jim and I banter all the time particularly about our sexuality eg. male/female. and as you see, about politics. This is one site where you can make your views known without any grudges being borne or any animosity. Everyone is entitled to there particular view and you should realise that you are among friends who care and will listen. I agree with George and Jim, that no=where on the site has anyone been derogatory about YOUR faith. It seems a shame that you feel you have to go, at this time, but maybe you will be back. soon. These are the kind of squabbles that we used to have as kids, I would hope we have moved on now we are adults. Life is too short Ted.

Tommy said...

Hi Ted,you must do what you think is best for you.We are not political or a religous group just a bunch of Cuckooites who enjoy reminicing about a place we grew up at.If you decide not to come to the reunion we will gladly refund your money if you let us know befor we order the buffet meal. Please contact Jackie and she will be glad to handle it.We wish you well and I am glad you have found what you are looking for.

jim davis said...

That was well put Tom, very diplomatic. I do not think anyone could take offense at that. You did not give an opinion you just stated a fact. I also agree with you, In as much as I am glad Ted has found what he is looking for, and no one has driven him away it is something he has decided to do himself.
